PLANS are under way for pop superstar Britney Spears to make her first Australian tour.

Leading concert promoters are in talks with the US singer, and tour dates are expected to be scheduled for later this year.

“All the promoters are vying for it, but the bottom line is she really wants to come here and she really wants to come here this year,” Sony Australia boss Denis Handlin said.

Handlin spoke to Barry Weiss, the head of Spears’ American record label, last week about the tour.

“I think the promoters are battling it out at the moment,” he said.

Frontier Touring’s Michael Gudinski confirmed he was in discussions with Spears’ management.

Gudinski said several promoters had been chasing Spears.

“I don’t expect anything will be worked out or finalised for a month, but we’re in there,” he said.

Spears began her new Circus tour in New Orleans earlier this month.

The stadium spectacular features a rotating stage, acrobats, special effects and a greatest-hits set.

“It will be one of the biggest concert productions to come here,” Gudinski said.

The Circus tour opened in the US to rave reviews.

The two-hour show has four acts: Circus; House Of Fun; Freakshow/Peepshow; and Electro-Circ.

Reviews for the show were mostly positive!

Spears performs one song on a stripper pole.

The set list includes her controversial new hit, If You Seek Amy.

After five years, Britney Spears is returning to the stage for her Circus tour—and it looks like things will be just as sexy as before. The Canadian design duo behind star-favorite label DSquared2 has teamed up with the pop star to create looks for her and her backup dancers. The designers have refashioned traditional circus costumes such as those worn by trapeze artists, clowns and jugglers into sinister and provocative looks. The custom styles were created to take on a dream-like element that will blend with Britney’s sexy on-stage persona. We can’t wait to see more. Tell us: What do you think of Britney’s costumes?

of fan-made, Joachim Ohnona, a journalist based in Paris, France, recently released a book about Britney entitled “Britney On Stage,”a Britney-encyclopedia of all the performances and the appearances Brit has made on stage from the first tour to the last “Circus” performances.

Though the book is in French, Ohnona claims it is a great collectors item, featuring over 150 Britney pictures, confidential documents including tour contracts and exclusive information from the staff of Britney’s past tours.

Even better, Ohnona published the book himself, saying:

We’ve just heard that Britney Spears and Madonna are going to be doing a scene together for Britney’s Circus Tour. The duo will be doing the routine to Britney’s third single off of Circus, “If you seek Amy.” Apparently Madonna is “Amy” and Britney is running after her. There is reportedly a video playing and then Britney will come out and sing and then, (in L.A. only), Madonna will come out for the last part.

Britney Spears, who came back strong this month with her No. 1 hit album Circus, tops the list, joining such previous No. 1 stars as Anna Nicole Smith (’07), Tom Cruise (’06), Oprah Winfrey (’05 and ‘04), Jennifer Lopez (’03) and Jennifer Aniston (’02). Noticeably absent from this year’s list are paparazzi faves Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, while Miley Cyrus makes her first appearance on the list at No. 13.

Britney Spears wants Madonna to guest star on her forthcoming tour.
The singer is in talks with Madge to make a series of appearances, according to Spears’ choreographer Wade Robson.

‘There’s been talk of Madonna making an appearance, and there’s so many places we could take that,’ he said.

‘At this point, the main issue is timing,’ he added. The North American leg of Spears’ Circus tour is due to start in New Orleans in March and she has also added six more nights to her June residency at the O2 Arena in London.

Spears appeared on stage with Madonna at one show in Los Angeles last month and a video clip of the Toxic star was used at other gigs on Madge’s Sticky And Sweet world tour.

The pair also famously shared a kiss at a televised music awards in 2003. More than 100,000 tickets have been sold for Spears’ O2 shows – her first arena tour in five years.

A representative for Spears was unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, divorcing couple Madonna and Guy Ritchie, 40, will spend Christmas Day together this year after calling a truce for the sake of their children.

The couple will be sharing a traditional family celebration on the Ashcombe House estate in Wiltshire.

Madonna, 50, who has been on tour in South America, will arrive in Britain on December 23 with their son Rocco, eight, adopted son David, three, and her daughter, 12-year-old Lourdes.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Britney Spears’ latest album, Circus, has topped the charts — and her pal Mel Gibson couldn’t be more proud.

“She’s great,” he told Usmagazine.com at the Ninth Annual Global Green Sustainable Design Awards in NYC on Wednesday. “She’s a sweet girl.”

Gibson, who has helped people with sobriety issues over the years, reached out to Spears — his former neighbor in Malibu, Calif. — earlier this year during her much-publicized public meltdown.

Spears and her father vacationed with the actor and his wife at his 400-acre ranch in Costa Rica in May. Gibson and Spears were last spotted together at a Beverly Hills cigar bar in June.

Britney Spears celebrated her 27th birthday doing what her fans love to see her do most — performing.

The pop star continued her comeback with an appearance on “Good Morning America” Tuesday morning at the Big Apple Circus tent at New York’s Lincoln Center.

Britney, who was dressed as a ringmaster, made a grand entrance on a circus wagon with jugglers, clowns and performers in animal costumes accompanying her, before performing her hit single, “Womanizer.”

The pop star’s festive appearance coincides with the release of her sixth studio album, “Circus.”
“GMA” host Robin Roberts noted that Brit’s appearance was “our concert event of the year.”
Robin’s co-host, Diane Sawyer, agreed, saying, “There are about a gazillion people [here].”

The “gazillion” people included Brit’s sons, Preston and Jayden, and her mom, Lynne Spears and brother Bryan.

And it wasn’t only just family wishing Britney a happy birthday. During the broadcast, a slew of stars, including Taylor Swift, John Travolta, Nicollette Sheridan, Teri Hatcher, Reese Witherspoon and Hugh Jackman – who sang “Happy Birthday” to the pop star – sent well wishes to Britney via taped greetings.

“You look great,” Reese said to Brit, “and I hope you have a great day.”

Robin and Diane ended the celebration by surprising Brit with a circus-themed birthday cake.
